Translation
The Bachelor’s Degree in Translation was established in 2009 with the primary objective of training translation professionals whose practices align with societal needs. Curriculum Duration: Minimum: 8 academic semesters / Maximum: 12 academic semesters Working Languages: English and Portuguese. English begins at B1 level, as per the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Number of Available Positions: 30 (for entry in the first academic semester)
Course Objectives
General: To facilitate the development of translation competence, enabling graduates to enter the translation job market and continue autonomous learning to refine expertise.
Specific:
● Reflect on the significance of language as a medium for intercultural mediation in human socialization, and the importance of professional translation, developing specific competences and skills for individual and team tasks.
● Read, analyze, revise, and produce texts across different language varieties and contexts.
● Utilize computer resources, online dictionaries, databases, search engines, and language processing tools across various media.
● Translate texts across diverse fields.
● Foster an interest in research and the exercise of autonomy and agility in addressing translation challenges.
● Conduct translation activities with quality, punctuality, and ethics.
● Propose translation models to promote innovative practices among translators and engage in forums for discussing and disseminating advancements in the field.
● Contribute to enhancing the tools utilized in translation work.
● Support research development in translation and bolster existing research group initiatives on the national and global scientific stage.
● Strengthen researcher training with a focus on translation, preparing them for future roles in higher education within the field.
● Contribute to establishing a reference center for translation studies, given the evident growth of Translation Studies in the country.
