History
The Postgraduate Program in Social Psychology (PPGPS) begins in 1975, when the Master in Psychology was created in UFPB. This Master was structured in three areas of concentration: Social Psychology; Psychology of development and learning; Psychology of Mental Health. Over the years, Social Psychology has been consolidated as the central axis of our postgraduate studies and since then it has been a national reference in the area, highlighting the fact that it includes several professors trained abroad.
The quality of research and the training of highly qualified personnel was recognized in 1990 with the highest possible score for its category in CAPES’ evaluation. Years later, in 2003, the UFPB, together with the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), proposed the opening of a doctorate course called the Integrated Program of Postgraduate Studies in Social Psychology.
The success of the partnership established between UFPB and UFRN, the maturity of both institutions and the expansion of their faculties led to the dismemberment of the Integrated Program, which had become obsolete. And in 2012 the part of the program based in João Pessoa generated the Postgraduate Program in Social Psychology (PPGPS), where the tradition in the area of Social Psychology was already strongly consolidated, allowing to train masters and PhDs in Social Psychology.
The quality of PPGPS’ research and higher education are widely recognized nationally and internationally. This recognition is reflected in the fact that PPGPS receives the highest score attributed by CAPES to a postgraduate program in Social Psychology.
Currently the activities of the PPGPS are oriented to carry out basic and applied research projects in the following areas:
-> Social Psychology of Development
-> Social Psychology of Health and Work
-> Social Psychology of Values and Social Inequalities
